Will there be a Rogue One / Stars Wars Rebels Crossover?

Star Wars Rebels Rogue One

Will there be a crossover between Rogue One and Star Wars Rebels? Nobody knows. Details about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have been hard to come by as Disney keeps the projects secrets under lock and key, but that doesn’t mean that speculation surrounding the characters and plot of the film are not running rampant.

For those of you not aware why the Rebels/Rogue One crossover is a real possibility both worlds take place in similar timelines within the Star Wars universe. Star Wars Rebels is set in the years preceding Star Wars: A New Hope; and Bob Iger, Chairman of Disney, has confirmed that  the action within Star Wars Rogue One “takes place right before the events in the very first Star Wars movie, Episode IV”.

Rebels is also the first piece of Disney’s “new canon” which it added to the mix after they purchased Lucasfilm. Rebels is a carefully constructed narrative that has so far been set in a time slight prior to where we will enter with Rogue One.

Season 3 of Rebels, set for release in late 2016,  will almost definitely commence before the December 16th launch date of Rogue One so it could be used to build some background to new Star Wars story.

Two things could happen, and probably should happen, if Disney wants to expand Rebels and make a great Rogue One film.

Firstly, Rogue One  should have a handful of live-action characters from the animated television series. While using the Jedi characters Kanan, Ezra or Ahsoka may not necessarily fit into the rumoured dark and down-to-earth feel of Rogue One seeing Ahsoka in Rogue One would be an epic moment especially considering her relationship with Anakin Skywalker in the Clone Wars animated series (epic!).

More likely may be our new favourite Twi’lek pilot Hera Syndulla, she could swoop in Han Solo stayle and get those Death Star plans to the rebels by making the Kessel Run in 14 seconds (nod to Han Solo and Rey).

Or perhaps they could use Lasat enforcer Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, the former Captain of the Lasan Honour Guard, to head back into battle against the empire which destroyed his home world of Lasan.

The Second alternative is to introduce brand new characters from Rogue One into the Rebels universe before the film’s release to build the back story behind the Rogue One narrative and create a new set of engaging characters Star Wars fans genuinely care about. Who these could be we just don’t know, but you could expect a host of characters pictured below to enter the Rebels timeline if this was to occur.

Either way it would be amazing.
