I knew VR would come up with the goods! Last week at Gamescom in Germany, Lucasfilm and EA revealed what is in store for Star Wars fans in the Rogue One VR mission for Star Wars Battlefront.
Closely tied into the storyline of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where the story behind the theft of the Death Star plans in Star Wars: A New Hope are told, the Battlefront VR experience will come in the form of a Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission which is directly linked to the Rogue One film as the game has been created in collaboration with the Lucasfilm story team.
The game will be free to owners of Star Wars Battlefront and a PlayStation VR headset which is released mid-October.
James Svensson of Criterion Games, in an interview with PlayStation.com, explained what to expect from the X-Wing VR experience:
“Being in a fight with a Star Destroyer is not a situation an X-wing pilot wants to find themselves in, but that’s where the player ends up. The player will have to keep their wits about them, with intense battle ensuing from every direction, to keep them and their wingmen alive as they complete a critical mission for the Rebellion.”
