This week has been a good one for fans of the animated Star Wars universe with the leaking of images showing Dave Filoni’s new series Star Wars Resistance at a French Disney event (RDVDisney) on July 5th by Yakface Collectors Forum.
After the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels earlier this year it was announced that a new Dave Filoni-led animated series would take its place – Star Wars Resistance. The tentative release date of Fall 2018 has now been narrowed down to October 2108 by Disney’s French executive team filling the empty DisneyXD time slots and the artwork and potential storyline sound very interesting.
The timeline of Star Wars Resistance takes place before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and stars a young resistance pilot named Kazuda Xiono fighting along side Poe Dameron against nemesis Captain Phasma. It will be interesting to see if any characters are also taken from Ben Blacker’s and Ben Acker’s 2017 graphic novels series Star Wars Join the Resistance.

The new series will have an anime-inspired art design and storylines inspired WWII fighter pilots as explained by creator Dave Filoni.
“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
The first leaks of the anime-inspired artwork were posted by Yakface forums this week:
